A bold roadmap to address systemic inequities and advance reproductive freedom for all.
Washington, DC, January 22, 2025 – Today, on the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, All* Above All, a leading abortion justice organization, launches the groundbreaking Abortion Justice Playbook– a comprehensive guide to dismantling systemic barriers to abortion care and advancing equity for marginalized communities. Even before the fall of Roe v. Wade, these barriers disproportionately impacted Black, Brown, LGBTQIA+, and low-income communities. Now, those inequities have only deepened, with millions denied the healthcare they need.
Three years since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the urgency for reform has intensified. With President Trump returning to office, the threat to abortion access has escalated, as his administration continues to push for even more restrictive abortion laws at the state level. The challenges marginalized communities face in accessing reproductive healthcare have deepened, making the release of the Abortion Justice Playbook more timely than ever. Despite the obstacles, 63% of Americans support abortion rights, underscoring the need for immediate and bold action. The Abortion Justice Playbook provides policymakers, advocates, and community leaders with actionable solutions to dismantle barriers and ensure reproductive justice for all.
The Abortion Justice Playbook outlines a clear, actionable path to combat the challenges providing strategies across federal, state, and local levels. Key initiatives include:
- Repealing the Hyde Amendment through the EACH Act to ensure federal insurance covers abortion care.
- Protect medication abortion by advancing shield laws and over-the-counter access to mifepristone and misoprostol.
- Build a diverse and culturally competent abortion workforce through specialized training programs.
- Enshrining abortion rights in state constitutions and repeal restrictive laws.
- Improving clinic accessibility by eliminating zoning restrictions and funding rural care initiatives.
“Systemic barriers to abortion care have long impacted Black, Brown and queer communities. With the fall of Roe, these obstacles have multiplied,” said Nourbese Flint, President at All* Above All. “The Abortion Justice Playbook is our blueprint for a future where abortion access is equitable, universal, and free from discrimination.” The Abortion Justice Playbook underscores how racial, economic, and gender inequities are deeply intertwined with reproductive healthcare access. It reveals the disproportionate harm caused by abortion bans in states with high maternal mortality rates–where communities of color face the greatest barriers to care.
The Abortion Justice Playbook is a call to action for lawmakers, advocates, and community leaders to rescind harmful laws and policies, expand access to abortion and reproductive healthcare, and build a future that transcends the protections Roe once provided. “This is about more than restoring Roe,” Flint added. “It’s about building a future where everyone–regardless of race, income, or gender identity–can access the care they need, free from stigma or discrimination.”
“The Abortion Justice Playbook is a bold and necessary blueprint for building a future where abortion access isn’t just restored but reimagined to address the systemic inequities that have long denied care to Black, Brown, LGBTQIA+, and low-income communities,” said Lexi White, Director of State Strategies at All* Above All. “This isn’t just about policies—it’s about people. It’s about transforming a broken system to ensure that everyone, no matter who they are or where they live, can access the healthcare they deserve with dignity and without barriers.”
The Abortion Justice Playbook is endorsed by over 20 state and national organizations, each contributing their expertise and commitment to reproductive health, rights and justice.
