Tonight President Biden delivered his State of the Union Address and called on Congress to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade

“Tonight, we heard from President Biden about the need to ‘restore Roe.’ While we are glad to hear him address the abortion care crisis, the solution is not in 1973. Across the country, people are struggling to get abortion care, with nearly half of all states banning abortion, providers facing the threat of criminalization, and decades of harm caused by restrictions like the Hyde Amendment. The impact falls hardest on people working to make ends meet, young people, and people of color. In the last 21 months since the Dobbs decision, President Biden has taken steps to protect abortion care, but we must aim higher. To move closer to a world with abortion justice, we call on the Biden administration and Congress to ensure abortion is not only legal, but that it is affordable, available, and accessible. Nearly 7 in 10 Americans agree—abortion justice can’t wait.”
