D.C. Abortion Coverage Ban is Harmful and Unjust
For the first time in 10 years, anti-abortion Senators included the rider that prohibits D.C. from using local funds to cover abortion in the Medicaid insurance program. This ban creates an often insurmountable barrier to abortion for those struggling to make ends meet. Below please find a statement from Destiny Lopez, Co-Director, All* Above All.
Destiny Lopez, Co-Director of All* Above All and the All* Above All Action Fund, “In years past, the Senate spending bill for D.C. did not include the harmful and unjust ban on abortion coverage for D.C. residents – it’s deeply disappointing to see the Hyde Amendment’s tentacles creep into yet another piece of legislation. The D.C. Medicaid coverage ban takes health coverage and personal decisions away from women, is an overreach into D.C. home rule, and should be lifted.”
