Gala with Lizz Winstead

We were thrilled to have Lizz Winstead as the guest of honor at the 2013 Annual Choice Gala. We invited Lizz to come speak with us, because she acts on the belief that humor is an incredibly powerful way to cut across our political differences and speak to the common good.

The national attack on women’s reproductive freedom can be really depressing- but when the right woman can demystify what’s going on in Washington, while making us laugh- we became inspired. Lizz was recently asked: If men were the ones who got pregnant would abortion would be more accessible? Lizz answered, “I think that if men could get pregnant, abortion would be free and in the Constitution.” She knows that women’s health has become the bargaining chip in Washington and she’s not keeping quiet. The night was full of laughs and amazing conversation. After the main show, guest continued the night at the VIP Comedy Lounge where local comedians kept the laughs going!

Oregon Foundation for Reproductive Health’s Executive Director, Michele Stranger Hunter had the opportunity to address the crowed of over 300 people on all of the prolific changes for women’s healthcare mandated by the Affordable Care Act. Michele’s coverage of the All* Above All campaign was an inspiring point in her speech. The campaign serves as a beacon of light for the future of reproductive rights.  Lizz Winstead was able to connect the audience to the fight for abortion funding by telling hard-hitting facts, and personal testimony.
